Magnus 27th June

Well, thank goodness, that's the heat spell over.  It's really raining today and the temperature is down to 9C.  It's going to be cooler for a while.  I am much happier when it's cool.  We dogs don't really like a lot of heat.  Mirren copes better than me.  I just pant a lot and feel bad.  Anyway, out for walks in the pouring rain, this morning.  Felt like a getting a shower.  Brilliant.  Then, of course, there was the towel rub down.  And sausages.  Happy, cool dog.

Mmmm.  He's right.  It is better cooler.  Personally, I just put myself into a meditative state, in the coolest place I can find and get on with it.  But it is easier when it's cooler.  I'm not sure about the towel rub thing.  My hair now looks like dreadlocks and is sticking up in the weirdest places.  That means I'll need brushed when I'm dried out a bit.  A girl has to look her best, doesn't she.

Magnus Wednesday 21st June

Just back from a wee break in Northumberland.  It was a tad warm for a big guy like me.  Pam and Ewen bought these fantastic mats to keep me cool.  Scruffs cool mats.  Bit odd at first but then I got to realise they were nice and cool.  Slept well with my head on one and my back on the other.  Lovely.  We visited Alnmouth and Alnwick and lots of other places that had beaches and golf courses.  Ewen was very happy.  He likes "Links" courses apparently????  I went in the sea to cool down.  Mirren wouldn't come in.  Pam tried to get her in the water but she was scared of the waves.  I don't know? Maybe this is my fault.  Monty always told me to bark at the waves and let them know who is boss.  Maybe I forgot to tell her.  Our hotel was brilliant.  The Craster Arms in Beadnell.  It was very dog friendly.  We weren't allowed to drink out of the water dishes though.  Pam says she doesn't want a repeat of Durham!  Pam and Ewen always travel with dishes and gallons of cold water for us when we go out in the summer so we are well hydrated. Lay about on the grass, in the beer garden.  Really comfortable, apart from all these people coming up to pat me.

Mirren Wednesday 21st June

It was very warm.  I can stay cooler than Big Boy.  Quite like these new mats, I must say, but he needs them more than me.  I was not getting the sea.  Magnus thinks it's because I'm scared.  I admit that these rolling waves of water disturb me but it's more the effect of salt on my hair I'm concerned about.  That and getting sand in my paws.  The hotel was very good and very comfortable.  We were welcomed everywhere.  In fact everywhere we went along the coast was very dog friendly.  Great to be accepted as valued members of the community.  Once again Magnus got a lot of attention.  Cars stopping and people leaping out! Really.  It happened twice.  Pam says not to worry.  I'm not as scared as him so I step forward for cuddles and people say "Hello" to me while he's trying to run away.  He does get very stressed.

Can we just remind people that hot pavements, hot roads and hot sand can burn a dog's paws just like it can a person's.
Once again, please don't leave dogs in a car on a hot day.  12 minutes can kill a dog.  Mind you, we've just found out that some humans leave their children in hot cars too.  They died just like we would have done.  Terrible.

Magnus 12th June

Been a busy week.  We went to New Abbey again on Sunday.  I like it there.  I scared a lot of people who were visiting the abbey.  I met a lovely couple from Newcastle, Australia.  There's not a lot of Wolfhounds in Australia, apparently.  Anyway, I gave them lots of sniffs and let them pat me.  They had come a long way so I thought I'd better be chummy.  Then Maisie came to stay for a day.  It's Common Riding time in the Borders and her Two Legs were away.  Bit forward that girl.  Gave me a really good sniffing.
We also had a dress up moment.  I wore Ewen's shirt. Mirren was a bit too fond of those sparkly sandal things.

Maisie just took Ewen over.  She lay beside him in the office and even crawled onto his chest when he was sleeping.  She dozed off there with her nose up under his chin.  I think that was a bit presumptive.  I mean he's our Two Legs, not hers.  She does have great hair though, very black and shiny.

I do like a bit of bling.
With my beautiful, long, slim feet and legs Pam's blinging sandals look fabulous, darling. Don't they?
Yesterday was scary.  Fireworks all day.  Pam had us both in the wee sitting room with the door shut and the telly on loud but we could still hear the nail guns.  Magnus was really not well, poor boy.  Dene came to say hello.  He was nice.  I gave him big kisses to say thank you for stopping the nail guns.  After things went quiet we both went to bed.  Ate late.  Chilled out and slept.  Peace.

Magnus June 3rd

Pam's back.  House is tidy, everything is washed and clean.  Don't know where to put my paws.  Good to have her back though.  Ewen's working so we have company in the house.  She's changed colour.  She's not purpley white any more.  More of a light tan.
Lala and Ray have a new puppy.  He's called Murphy.  Apparently he's quite a large, solid sort of chap.  A 10 week old Labradoodle.  Pam says he's sizing up against me well.  He's already over a stone.  Of course, with my Mum being so ill, when I was a puppy, I didn't see much of her.  He's been a lot luckier than me.  He got to stay with his Mum for ages. Pam and Ewen think that's why I've got problems with my tummy and with allergies.  I didn't get enough milk from my Mum.  I suppose she wasn't there to help me with knowing what to do either.  Maybe that's why I'm quite shy.

Mirren June 3rd

Yes, Pam is home.  Good to see her back.  Ewen brushed us both to make sure we looked our best when she came home.  She has changed colour.  She's closer to, my dear friend, Harry's colour now.  A sort of gingery tan.  Pam thinks I'll not be interested in Murphy.  He's quite boisterous, being so young.  I prefer the comfort and peace of a couch now, rather than hurtling round a garden.  I also prefer older men, like Harry.  I could see Big Boy getting involved though.  He likes a good play about.
Poor Magnus, he did have a difficult puppyhood.  His Mum had to go to the vet when he was still only a few weeks old, so he didn't get to be with her much.  I was very lucky.  I got to stay with my Mum till I was 12 weeks old.  I did get the feeling she was rather relieved to see me go and to reclaim peace with her "Two-Legs."  It may have had something to do with me stealing the Sunday chicken off the table top!!!!!!!!  I liked food then too.
