Magnus 30th October

It's Hallowe'en tomorrow.  People will be out scaring each other and asking for sweets.  I hope no-one too scary comes to our house.  I don't like frights.  It's not as bad as 5th November.  THAT gave me diarrhoea last year.  Pam and Ewen weren't very chuffed.  Anyway, scary people coming to the house......I'm not happy about that.
Had a lovely play walk this afternoon.  Bit tired now though.

Mirren 30th October

He is such a wimp.  I personally, don't get up for anything other than food.  All you need to do is raise your head slightly to acknowledge someone has arrived, then just lie the head back down again on the cushion it was lifted from.  Easy.  Have to agree with him about the 5th.  I just get cuddled up against Pam and Ewen to feel safe.

It was good day today and Pam made me run after her.  It was a long run.  Haven't run that far or that fast for ages.  Felt really good to let go and gallop.  Totally tired out.  Think I might go and take over Pam and Ewen's bed.

Magnus 23rd October

Just completed the most fantastic walk.. 3 hours walking round the woods and fields of Lauder.  I got to paddle.  I also got to say where we went.  It was my walk really.  I had a fabulous time and Pam and Ewen had organized pit-stop essentials -
water, biscuits and ham.  I have no idea what they had.  I also played in the pond with Ewen.  I love playing for stones, in the water, with Ewen.  Fantastic, as I said.  Off to sleep now as I am a tad tired.

Mirren 23rd October

You have to try and imagine what Big Boy is like on a walk.  "No! I don't want to go that way.  I want to go this way." "I'm not going that way, I'm staying here until you come back and go my way." " I am not ready to leave the pond." It is difficult to see a grown dog behave in such a childish and spoiled manner.  Especially one so large!  I, of course, stayed out of the water and trotted along beside Pam.  Ewen threw stones in the water for Magnus to try and get him clean.  I stay very tidy when out for walks.  Magnus seems to attract dirt and mud.  His tummy goes a really mucky, blackish colour and his paws get filthy.  Pam worries about the carpets so Ewen cleans him in the pond.  But shhhhh!   Magnus doesn't realize that's what's happening. Anyway, it turned out to be lovely walk and we all had a lovely day.

Magnus 16th October

It is Her Ladyship's birthday today.  She's been a bit huffy, actually.  Pam and Ewen have tried everything to brighten her up but to no result.  They've tried raw venison and some of MY SPECIAL FOOD!!!  I know.  Gasp and pant and howl.  Anyway, her pants are off and she's going to see Colin tomorrow.  Maybe that's it.

Mirren 16th October

I am six.  I'm getting old.  Oh dear.  Pam and Ewen have bought Big Boy some over 7 dog food.  He loves it.  It is really tasty and I enjoyed it too but I don't want to be a "MATURE" dog.  I wonder what Colin will say tomorrow.  Oh dear, I do hate getting older. Only good thing is that the pants are off and they have bought me some venison. (Pam and Ewen, not the pants) I do like it.  Magnus won't touch it but, since I am a Deerhound after all, I love it.  A wee nibble of raw meat and I am happy.  I suppose every cloud has a silver lining but this getting older lark is just not for me.  I think I'm going greyer too..........

Magnus 14th October

I was seven last Sunday.  Unfortunately, Pam and Ewen have been too busy winter cleaning the house to write my blog for that day and they apologise!!! Sanding floors etc.  Very dusty.  I had a lovely day.  Long walk and a new toy.  We had surf and turf for tea.  It was AMAZING.  I have no intention of letting her ladyship come into contact with my new toy.  It is mine.  When I get my mouth round it there isn't much left for her to catch on to so....  She's still in pants.  Not as grumpy.  Winter coming in soon I think it'll be time for the reflecting coats.  It's dark when Ewen takes us out in the morning.  Mind you the clocks will change in a week or so.  I'm not panting as much at night, which makes me happier.  It's getting colder and I get happier.

Mirren 14th October

It's my birthday this Sunday.  I will be six.  There are mutterings of taking me to see Colin.  I'm too old for puppies now.  I wonder if Harry will still like me?  Anyway, I have decided to change my name.  I came here as Hiltie Siltie.  Pam and Ewen called me Mirren.  I have decided I will only respond to "Girlie".  Pam found this out when we went a walk yesterday and I let Ewen know about it this morning.  It's youthful and describes my personality perfectly.  I am still just a girl after all.  I am only six.  In doggie years that's around forty in humans.  Still young and able to show a clean pair of paws when I see a deer.  Wonder what I'll get for my birthday?  They got me some venison to try the other day.  Hopeful about that.  They also bought me a new rabbit toy.  Me?  A toy?  Don't think so.  They must be having a laugh.  Some bling would be good.  I like to look glam you know.

Magnus 30th September

We've been really busy. We all got in the mobile kennel and went off to the Yorkshire Moors for a few days.  It was great.

We walked for miles in Dalby Forest.  We had pit stops over Jerry Noddle.  We walked along the front at North Bay Scarborough.  I was much admired.  When we were in Pickering lots of people took pictures of me.  We were also allowed in Rievaulx Abbey.  I felt quite at home at all these castles and abbeys.

When we were at Helmsley, I went round a corner and walked straight into another dog my size.  She was a Great Dane.  Good grief she was attractive.  Black and white and grey.  Beautiful big girl.  Tried to be friendly but I suppose it was never going to work.. her down there and me up here.  Oh well, it was nice while it lasted.  We stayed in a
lovely house called Little Duck Cottage, in Burniston.  I even managed the stairs.  I like going on holidays and seeing and meeting new people.  Mirren was just herself!!!!!! Says it all.  She has pants on again which made her even grumpier than usual.  She gets really nippy when it's pants time.

Mirren 30th September

The holiday was very nice.  It being pants time was a bit of a nuisance but I didn't have to wear them when
I was out.  The walks were magnificent but I chose to stay close to Pam and Ewen.  I always feel a bit insecure when it's pants time.  Pam says she's a bit concerned cause I'm a month early.  Might get to see Colin.  Can't really complain because Harry is interested again.  What a boy.  Anyway, back to our trip.  I do have to admit that Big Boy does draw in the attention.  We got a lot of it in Scarborough.  I was always polite and friendly and stuck my nose in everyone-who-patted-me's crotch.  I really like to do a full charm offensive.  Big Boy isn't so good at talking to strangers so I have to make up for it.  He may draw them in but it's me that gets them chatting. It was really funny seeing him meet that Great Dane girl.  He didn't know where to look first.  I just stood aside and let them get on with it. The trip was great fun and, as usual, we travelled in great comfort.  But I like being home again.
