Magnus 22nd May

And he is away AGAIN.  I am not happy.  Ewen is playing golf with some friends in Machrihanish.  Once again he didn't take me.  And now I hear Pam is going away.  I don't know? What will Mirmir and I do?  We've had lots of walks and cuddles and the food, including the midnight snacks, has carried on coming.  It's not the same though. Humph!

Mirren 22nd May

It is a trifle irritating when the Two Legs go on trips without us.  But Magnus needn't worry.  Normal service will be resumed shortly and in the mean time we get indulged for being deprived of an owner.  I had a wee bit steak last night.  Not that I should be writing this because Big Boy will get jealous.  He isn't allowed beef.  Makes his tummy go funny.  In fact chicken seems to do that too.  God help us if he ever gets allergic to ham!

Magnus 15th May

Ewen is away golfing.  He didn't take me.  I am very pissed off.  Pam is being lovely but I miss Ewen.  He's been away one night but he's going away again.  I don't know.  I would go with him but I find the swinging clubs, wee white balls and the chatter just too much.  Give me a good toy chase any day.

Mirren 15th May

I hate golf.  We went a big walk up the hill and round the golf course, the other day, and there was a noise like gunfire. I was off.  Hate that noise.  Hunting should be done quietly and quickly.  Like how a Deerhound would do it.  None of this baying and hollering and banging.  Pam and Ewen eventually caught up with me.  Anyway, the house is lovely and quiet.

Magnus 10th May

Tummy's been a bit off again.  Pam and Ewen try to stop me eating grass which doesn't help but I like a bit of salad.  Got weighed on Monday.  Down to 68 kilos.  I am positively sylphlike.  Pam is, of course worried.  She hates it when I'm off my food and losing weight. Been chomping away for the past 24 hours.  She likes me to make up for lost feeds.  This 3am feed is fantastic.  I wake up Ewen and he trots through and feeds me.  On demand.  Spectacular.
Hohohoho not for Mirren.  Despite eating diet food she's put on weight.  No midnight nibbles for her.
Gave Pam a fright yesterday when I "dematerialized" on a walk up the Chesters.  She went to catch up with Mirren, who was rabbiting, and even though several hundred yards behind her, I put a spurt on, overtook and went to play in the trees.  Pam had no idea where I was.  I thought I might get a row for ignoring her calls but she was so pleased to see me I just got cuddled.

Mirren 10th May

Of course I'm mortified.  Fortunately none of the lovely male vets saw my weigh in.  Colin, Colin and Peter didn't see me.  It was a really nice young lady who came through and checked me.  She was very nice to me in my embarrassing state.  I started at 48kilos.  Then I dropped to 45.5.  Now I'm 47 kilos.  Pam says I have to get down to 38.  Don't see her cutting back and losing weight even though she said we'd do it together.  I also think that weighing me after a big drink of water AND breakfast is unfair.  Every girl knows you weigh yourself first thing in the morning, after you've been to the toilet and before food or drink.  Think that might drop me another kilo.
Silly Big Boy.  Pam was worried about him but she was also worried about the lambs that are round about.  She knew we couldn't do anything bad like chasing them but she does like to know we, and the lambs, are fine.  Some people don't care and they let their dogs do terrible things to livestock.  No bad dogs.  Just bad owners.  But it's the dog that gets shot!!!

Magnus May 2nd

She has been complaining for the past 24 hours.  Whine, whine, moan, moan.  Yesterday, Her Ladyship was subjected to a good brushing, courtesy of Pam.  I just got myself out of the way every time I saw Pam with a brush or scissors approaching.  I allow Ewen to run the occasional brush over me but even then I'm really not interested.  AND THEN.......... Ewen grabbed me and cleaned my teeth.  He said I'd have "Minty fresh breath!"  Who does he think I am!!!! I'm a dog.  I do not need to have minty, fresh breath.  I like having dog breath.  It's part of me.  Her other moan is that Abbotsford have closed their walks.  What's the problem?  We live in the Borders.  We are surrounded by great walks.  I don't know?!  Women!  Anything for a moan.  Scared to tell her that now she's been brushed her beam end looks a lot bigger!!
First of May? Morning Dew? Personally, I have a bigger and better nose than her and as far as I'm concerned the May morning dew smelled remarkably cat pee!

Mirren 2nd May

I am bereft! Devastated.  Abbotsford, where I feel so at home, is doing forestry work so their woodland walks are shut till the end of July.  That's bad enough but they are also putting bullocks in beside the riverside walk.  It'll be shut till the end of November.  I'm not sure about bullocks.  They chase after us.  They like Big Boy for some reason.  There is only an electric fence between us and them.  I can get under it.  Don't know why he's so not bothered.  I remember the day a bullock leant over the fence and sniffed his bum.  Magnus has never moved so fast.  It was funny at the time and now he just trots out of their reach.
As to the brushing, it was like a spa day.  No tangles, no knots, just fabulously shiny, smooth coat now.  A girl likes to look her best you know.  No complaints about that.  The teeth cleaning I quite liked.  Fresh.  Pleasant.  Got up early yesterday morning to wash my face in the morning dew. First of May and all that.

Magnus 25th April

It's snowing quite heavily here.  Winter is back.  Yipee!! I love the cold and the snow.  Not sure about rain.  Not really happy when it's too hot.  Love the snow.  Don't think it's going to lie though, more's the pity.  We were meant to be going to the coast again today but I can't see that happening!

Mirren 25th April

I like the snow too but it's the end of APRIL for goodness sake.  Were those two nice days at the beginning of April as good as summer gets.  Do we now only have two seasons? Spring and winter?  And which idiots don't believe in global warming?  My coat doesn't know if it's coming or going.

Magnus 19th April

Exhausted.  We had a pack day out yesterday.  We walked the beach at Elie.  We walked the beach at St Andrews.  We walked all the way round St Andrews.

It was very enjoyable but I'm tired today.   I met the most gorgeous girl, called Rosie.  She was almost my height, the same colour of coat and looked just like me except her nose was brown and she had long, floppy ears.  She was just lovely.  We got on really well.  Her two-legs were very friendly too and they had another girl with them, Devon.  She was a wee bit old for me.  Rosie was just two.  She's a Spinone.  Think I might go for a wee snooze and dream about her.  It could have been another day of people wanting to pat me but it was fine, not as bad as it was in Durham.  I think the Scots must be more "personal space" aware.  Other than that they've seen lots of dogs like me.  Who knows?

Mirren 19th April

I have to agree.  It was a long walk yesterday when you add it all up.  Big Boy was very smitten by Rosie.  She seemed a friendly girl so it's okay even though I think of myself as his girl. It was a very interesting visit.  Naturally, Ewen had his picture taken in front of the the R&A.  We saw a cafe where the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, apparently, used to meet for a coffee.  Hello, I like a bit of fame nosing, OK?  It was very pleasant.  We ate out, drank lots and met lots of people.  Many of them came from a place called America.  They were all visiting to play golf.  We watched some of them tee off.  It was very embarrassing.  Lots of people watching and you hit a terrible drive off the tee!! One poor man hit his first ball about 20 yards to the left.  I would have given up.  I know a lot about golf.  Both Big Boy and I have visited a lot of golf courses and listened to Ewen going on about it.  He's a bit obsessed!

Magnus April 11th

Well, the weather is very changeable.  The other day Pam threw wet tea towels on our heads because we got so hot on our walk.  Today it's freezing again.  Ewen has been in Cyprus taking pictures of a wedding.  I really missed him.  He went away on Wednesday and came back on Sunday morning.  I was so pleased to see him I cried.  I do miss him.  Pam is fine but he is my hero.  The ham he gave me made me feel much better.  It was so nice just to get cuddled in beside him and go to sleep.

Mirren April 11th

It can be a bit pathetic watching him when his hero comes home.  A whimpering mess.  I try and say, "Hello," too but he is so big and pushy I never get a look in.  Good to have Ewen home.
I haven't had the wet tea towel treatment before but I have to say I totally enjoyed it.  After a long, hot walk it was very refreshing.  I just enjoyed it and went to sleep.  The cooler weather is pleasant for us Celtic dogs.  We aren't used to temperatures much over 10C.  More than that is positively tropical.  We had 14C the tea towel day.  That must have been summer?!
