INJURIES!
Pam and Ewen : It's been a busy couple of weeks. Just after Common Riding the dogs were running about up the local golf course. It was 6am because it was hot. Ewen noticed blood round Mabel's paw, although she was oblivious. He cleaned it and bound it but we realised it was deeper than we thought. Straight to emergency vets. By 8.30 4 vets at the practice had seen it and asked what we wanted to do. Something had cut cleanly through skin, pad, ligaments and bone and her outer claw was hanging on by a band of skin. Only sensible option was to take it off. Mabel returned later with a big stookie (Scottish) bandage round her front right paw. Utterly stoned, she had been rooing quite loudly. Think they wanted peace. She immedately got on with it but it meant we couldn't go to the beach, to the river or into the woods. We couldn't let it get wet or let her run. Dressing has now been changed twice and everything looks great. We took the elastic wrapping off last night to let the wound breathe a bit. Mabel, is, like most dogs, just getting on with what's happened. The vet has said it shouldn't affect her generally but if she's running and corners quickly she might slip.
We think spectators at Common Riding may have chucked a can or a bottle into the long grass which would get flattened by a galloping horse. The cut was clean so it had to be something sharp. Just wish people would take their rubbish home.
And then, last time we were getting Mabel's dressing changed Morris started to limp. Attention seeking behaviour????? No. He has torn a dew claw. Rosie, one of the vets, took pity, anaesthetised the claw and took it off. He got a dressing too. Happy dog.
Can we just say so many thanks to e-vets, to Rosie and Adam at Galedin Vets. They are always there for us.
