Magnus Wednesday 28th December

Well that was Christmas.  I opened all my presents myself.

Pam and Ewen were INCREDIBLY proud of me.  It's actually great fun, once you get the hang of it.  You need to use paws and teeth and shaking.  I got squeaky toys, homemade gluten free cheese bones and shortbread.

I also got a Christmas jumper/coat!  Not so sure about that but it keeps me warm when I'm out so no real complaints.
Foods been good and I get myself in and out of the new car.  Feeling chuffed. Her Ladyship has stopped all the yowling which is a HUGE bonus.  Long walks in places we haven't been for a while.  Fantastic.  New Year next.

Mirren Wednesday 28th December

We had a lovely, family Christmas.  We had people in for Christmas breakfast which meant Magnus and I got some scrambled eggs and salmon.  Then we had a big walk and then we had people in for dinner at night, which meant Magnus and I got some steak.  Auntie Lexi brought some steak up in morning too.  All round good food.
I don't do present opening.  It is far too vigorous a pastime for a ladylike dog.  All that tossing the parcel up in the air and shaking it.  Not for me.  I did like the presents though, particularly my new, red, Christmas jumper with Bambis on it it.  A spot-on choice for a Deerhound of my colouring.  The red contrasts well with my hair.

The new car is proving a bonus.  I elegantly glide in and out.  Big Boy sometimes needs a wee lift because his big paws slip.
New Year next.  MMMMM.  That generally means a lot of people getting very loud.

Magnus and Mirren

Big paws up to our pal Kohl.  His owners, Craig and Carol, had a wee girl on Christmas Eve.  Apart from the occasional whimpers, Kohl says she's great and he can see the chance of some extra food getting thrown his way.  Congratulations to you all.

By the way, always look after your teeth.  A chew on a suitably sized stick works wonders, and you can share!

Magnus 20th December

Ewen has been browsing his pics and found these pictures.  One from a few weeks ago, of us in the corn field and ones of us when we were young.

I HAD to wear those "Doggles" as they are called because I had all these funny rashes and it was to see if I was allergic to stuff.  They are worn by army dogs to protect their eyes from sun and sand.  I felt quite "Big Dog" in them.

Mirren 20th December

Just managed to stop rolling around the floor, paws in the air, laughing hysterically.  Big Boy feeling butch in a pair of dog goggles.  What were they thinking?  He could have resisted if he'd wanted too.  I don't mind an expensive pair of glasses, but these!!!!  Haha hohohohohoho heheheheheheheehe.

Magnus 20th December

She's got a cheek.  Look at "The Princess" in her necklace. 12 weeks old and already showing off.  What is that about?  Pam and Ewen created a monster when they did that.  Her with her airs and graces.

Mirren 20th December

I look GORGEOUS. Enough said.  (still laughing)

Magnus 18th December

This time next week it'll be Christmas.  Pam's been getting all excited, as usual.  Tree, lights, shopping etc.  I enjoy all the goodies and like all the bits and pieces that go with it.  Been dozing with my nose towards some interesting parcels.  Something smells good.
But the important news is that we have a new car.  Well it's a van actually.  It's bright red, apparently.  Ewen has kitted the back out with carpet and downies so we are really comfy.  I'm getting used to it, although I will admit a certain reluctance to get in it at first.  It's not as high up as our other dogmobile.  Once in it, it's fine.  We get to places to go walks so I'm totally with it but Ewen doesn't have to lift me in and out.  I can get in myself.  I rather miss the tummy scratches he gives me when he was lifting me in to the back of the other car.  Maybe this will remind him?  Bitch Face is giving them a hard time.  She makes the most awful noise and I have to cuddle down and cover my ears with my paws.  WOW! She's loud.

Mirren 18th December

Pam is getting excited.  The house and the tree look very nice.  She did it all when she came back from Jersey.  Ewen and then Pam went off to visit their niece at the beginning of December.  She has just had twins. I don't know what all the song and dance is about.  We have multiple puppies all the time.  Eight, nine puppies so what's so huge about two?
As to the new transport.... The last time Pam and Ewen put me in a different car, the journeys involved the Royal Dick Veterinary College.  I am not happy about being in this van yet.  I have let them know I am concerned by howling and yapping loudly.  So far this has worked and all we have done is go for walks.  However, I am not reassured yet, so I will be keeping up the noise levels for a while.  I need to be sure we're not going back to that place.  I don't mind Colin (sigh) but NOT THAT PLACE.  They put a metal plate in my leg.  Okay, I run better, but I am not Robodog.  But the worst was they wouldn't let me go home till I was better.
As to the colour of the van/car, how would he know.  He's showing off.  He overheard Pam say it was red.

Magnus and Mirren
We had very sad news in a Christmas card.  One of our friends died.  She passed away on November 14th.  Gloria was 20years old (might have been older).  She had been a great friend of Morgan, Mick and Monty.  Magnus knew her when he was a puppy.  She used to come to the house for holidays.  From being an abandoned stray found in Belfast garage forecourt, she landed on all four paws.  She was an amazing character and will be much missed.

Magnus 1st December

Not long till Christmas.  I like Christmas.  It generally means long walks, tasty food, long sleeps and lots of tit-bits.  What can anyone argue about?
Ewen has been away again, in jersey or jumper or something like that.  Can't understand why, he has lots of jerseys here.
Her ladyship has been a total drama queen this week.  She won't eat, she won't get up, she wants Pam to feed her little bits of food BY HAND.  When we are out for a walk she walks close by Pam or Ewen looking pathetic.  She is attention seeking.  I don't know.  She gets the best places on the couches.  She gets whatever she wants.  I don't remember having this amount of attention when I had my little op!  I probably did but I am a Big Boy and I just sucked it up and got on with it.

Mirren 1st December

How dare he!  I have a whole row of stitches and my tummy is shaved bare and it's been -7C.  I've been on painkillers and they make me feel funny and very sleepy.  The best thing to do is get somewhere comfy and sleep it off.  Okay Pam has been feeding me lovely bits of venison (I am a Deerhound) which I appreciate but my tummy was sore and I didn't like getting up.  Pam has also given me one of her jumpers.  I can't wear my High-viz coat just now in case the strap rubs my stitches,  The jumper is black and fluffy and I love it.  I can't run in case I hurt myself.  And I couldn't eat because my throat was sore.  Ewen thinks it might have been tubes during my operation.  So there!  And yes, Christmas is coming.

Wednesday 23 November 2016

Magnus 23rd November

Yesterday was very peaceful.  I have to admit a certain wave of unsettledness when I realised that Her Ladyship was missing.  However, she returned, as bossy as ever but very stoned.  Took over the couch and did the whole drama queen thing all of last night and today.  Looked a bit crossed eyed a lot of the time.  Think it must be the pain killers.  One good thing was the venison Pam for our tea tonight because The Diva won't eat.  Brilliant.

Mirren 23rd November

Well that was an experience.  No puppies for me.  Don't know how I feel.  Actually, I'm not feeling very much.  I am very tired and everything is very woozy.  Getting a lot of cuddles and I think they are on a serious guilt trip, particularly Pam.  She assures me it's for my own good.  The venison WAS very tasty and I'm wearing a very natty jumper.  I can't fasten the straps of my coat because of my stitches and my tummy is shaved bare.  It's -3C so I've got a fuzzy jumper on.  Very cozy.  Think I'd better stroll off and get up on the bed.  That's if I can focus properly.

Monday 21 November 2016

Magnus 21st November

Well, things have really taken a turn for winter. -7C this morning.  Brrrr.  I like my warm couch.  Need to wrap up.  Pam keeps saying we are house, central heating dogs and that we will feel the cold.  I totally agree.  Nothing too ridiculous.  We are dogs, not fashion accessories - just a fleece lined, hi-viz, waterproof.
Ewen has been away in Paris.  No bombs this year but I'm so pleased he's home safe.  It was okay this time.  I didn't get stressed out and Pam looked after me very well.  Lots of cuddles to make up for him being away.

Mirren 21st November

Very nippy out.  I, personally, prefer my couch and a cuddle.  For once I agree with Big Boy, I need my coat.  I get lost really easily because I blend in when it's dark.  Big Boy stands out like a polar bear but i just disappear.....like a ghost.
Going to see Colin tomorrow.  Not sure if I should be excited.  Think I'll wait and see.

Friday 11 November 2016

Magnus re 25th October

Mentioning Christmas reminded me about us having Morganistmus on the 25th October.  There were ten of us for dinner.  We got presents.  We got some Morganistmus food.  Toys are great.  Food made me fart!
Magnus 11th November

Well, we survived Hallowe'en and Bonfire Night.  Did have a bit of a fright on the 5th, when I heard a big bang, but Pam and Ewen had the curtains closed, the fire on and the TV up loud.  We all cuddled down in the wee sitting room and ignored it all.  So, phew, that's them over now for another year.  I really don't like Bonfire night.  It is really not nice for us animals.  Hate to think what it must be like for the horses, sheep and cows.  They have to be outside.  At least I had someone to snuggle into.  And I got ham for being brave.  Bring on Christmas.

Mirren 11th Novemeber

I, personally, don't know what the fuss is about.  You ignore the door if "Guisers" come.  I am Scottish.  We go guising, NOT trick or treating.  Glad to see the return of the tumshie lantern.  Pumpkins don't come from Scotland.  Anyway, firework night was fine.  I stretched out on the couch and chilled.  Big Boy did get a bit of fright with one big bang.  However, I have to remember his dislike all started when some inconsiderate human decided to have an impromptu birthday party near us, without letting us know.  Magnus was outside having a pee when a firework went off about twenty feet from him.  He hasn't been the same since.  Boomer, the Newfoundland from next door, was in the same position.  His owners were very unhappy and I think they barked loudly about the affair.  So, an element of sympathy for the big guy.  Thumbs down to unthinking humans.

Sunday 30 October 2016

Magnus 30th October

It's Hallowe'en tomorrow.  People will be out scaring each other and asking for sweets.  I hope no-one too scary comes to our house.  I don't like frights.  It's not as bad as 5th November.  THAT gave me diarrhoea last year.  Pam and Ewen weren't very chuffed.  Anyway, scary people coming to the house......I'm not happy about that.
Had a lovely play walk this afternoon.  Bit tired now though.

Mirren 30th October

He is such a wimp.  I personally, don't get up for anything other than food.  All you need to do is raise your head slightly to acknowledge someone has arrived, then just lie the head back down again on the cushion it was lifted from.  Easy.  Have to agree with him about the 5th.  I just get cuddled up against Pam and Ewen to feel safe.

It was good day today and Pam made me run after her.  It was a long run.  Haven't run that far or that fast for ages.  Felt really good to let go and gallop.  Totally tired out.  Think I might go and take over Pam and Ewen's bed.

Sunday 23 October 2016

Magnus 23rd October

Just completed the most fantastic walk.. 3 hours walking round the woods and fields of Lauder.  I got to paddle.  I also got to say where we went.  It was my walk really.  I had a fabulous time and Pam and Ewen had organized pit-stop essentials -
water, biscuits and ham.  I have no idea what they had.  I also played in the pond with Ewen.  I love playing for stones, in the water, with Ewen.  Fantastic, as I said.  Off to sleep now as I am a tad tired.

Mirren 23rd October

You have to try and imagine what Big Boy is like on a walk.  "No! I don't want to go that way.  I want to go this way." "I'm not going that way, I'm staying here until you come back and go my way." " I am not ready to leave the pond." It is difficult to see a grown dog behave in such a childish and spoiled manner.  Especially one so large!  I, of course, stayed out of the water and trotted along beside Pam.  Ewen threw stones in the water for Magnus to try and get him clean.  I stay very tidy when out for walks.  Magnus seems to attract dirt and mud.  His tummy goes a really mucky, blackish colour and his paws get filthy.  Pam worries about the carpets so Ewen cleans him in the pond.  But shhhhh!   Magnus doesn't realize that's what's happening. Anyway, it turned out to be lovely walk and we all had a lovely day.

Sunday 16 October 2016

Magnus 16th October

It is Her Ladyship's birthday today.  She's been a bit huffy, actually.  Pam and Ewen have tried everything to brighten her up but to no result.  They've tried raw venison and some of MY SPECIAL FOOD!!!  I know.  Gasp and pant and howl.  Anyway, her pants are off and she's going to see Colin tomorrow.  Maybe that's it.

Mirren 16th October

I am six.  I'm getting old.  Oh dear.  Pam and Ewen have bought Big Boy some over 7 dog food.  He loves it.  It is really tasty and I enjoyed it too but I don't want to be a "MATURE" dog.  I wonder what Colin will say tomorrow.  Oh dear, I do hate getting older. Only good thing is that the pants are off and they have bought me some venison. (Pam and Ewen, not the pants) I do like it.  Magnus won't touch it but, since I am a Deerhound after all, I love it.  A wee nibble of raw meat and I am happy.  I suppose every cloud has a silver lining but this getting older lark is just not for me.  I think I'm going greyer too..........

Friday 14 October 2016

Magnus 14th October

I was seven last Sunday.  Unfortunately, Pam and Ewen have been too busy winter cleaning the house to write my blog for that day and they apologise!!! Sanding floors etc.  Very dusty.  I had a lovely day.  Long walk and a new toy.  We had surf and turf for tea.  It was AMAZING.  I have no intention of letting her ladyship come into contact with my new toy.  It is mine.  When I get my mouth round it there isn't much left for her to catch on to so....  She's still in pants.  Not as grumpy.  Winter coming in soon I think it'll be time for the reflecting coats.  It's dark when Ewen takes us out in the morning.  Mind you the clocks will change in a week or so.  I'm not panting as much at night, which makes me happier.  It's getting colder and I get happier.

Mirren 14th October

It's my birthday this Sunday.  I will be six.  There are mutterings of taking me to see Colin.  I'm too old for puppies now.  I wonder if Harry will still like me?  Anyway, I have decided to change my name.  I came here as Hiltie Siltie.  Pam and Ewen called me Mirren.  I have decided I will only respond to "Girlie".  Pam found this out when we went a walk yesterday and I let Ewen know about it this morning.  It's youthful and describes my personality perfectly.  I am still just a girl after all.  I am only six.  In doggie years that's around forty in humans.  Still young and able to show a clean pair of paws when I see a deer.  Wonder what I'll get for my birthday?  They got me some venison to try the other day.  Hopeful about that.  They also bought me a new rabbit toy.  Me?  A toy?  Don't think so.  They must be having a laugh.  Some bling would be good.  I like to look glam you know.

Magnus 30th September

We've been really busy. We all got in the mobile kennel and went off to the Yorkshire Moors for a few days.  It was great.

We walked for miles in Dalby Forest.  We had pit stops over Jerry Noddle.  We walked along the front at North Bay Scarborough.  I was much admired.  When we were in Pickering lots of people took pictures of me.  We were also allowed in Rievaulx Abbey.  I felt quite at home at all these castles and abbeys.

When we were at Helmsley, I went round a corner and walked straight into another dog my size.  She was a Great Dane.  Good grief she was attractive.  Black and white and grey.  Beautiful big girl.  Tried to be friendly but I suppose it was never going to work.. her down there and me up here.  Oh well, it was nice while it lasted.  We stayed in a
lovely house called Little Duck Cottage, in Burniston.  I even managed the stairs.  I like going on holidays and seeing and meeting new people.  Mirren was just herself!!!!!! Says it all.  She has pants on again which made her even grumpier than usual.  She gets really nippy when it's pants time.

Mirren 30th September

The holiday was very nice.  It being pants time was a bit of a nuisance but I didn't have to wear them when
I was out.  The walks were magnificent but I chose to stay close to Pam and Ewen.  I always feel a bit insecure when it's pants time.  Pam says she's a bit concerned cause I'm a month early.  Might get to see Colin.  Can't really complain because Harry is interested again.  What a boy.  Anyway, back to our trip.  I do have to admit that Big Boy does draw in the attention.  We got a lot of it in Scarborough.  I was always polite and friendly and stuck my nose in everyone-who-patted-me's crotch.  I really like to do a full charm offensive.  Big Boy isn't so good at talking to strangers so I have to make up for it.  He may draw them in but it's me that gets them chatting. It was really funny seeing him meet that Great Dane girl.  He didn't know where to look first.  I just stood aside and let them get on with it. The trip was great fun and, as usual, we travelled in great comfort.  But I like being home again.

Magnus Sunday 18th September

Oh! Hello again.  We've been busy for a while.  All is well.  I've been fine.  Walking, eating, sleeping, eating, sleeping, eating, walking, sleeping, eating.  The usual sort of stuff.  Pam's back at work?  Went for an amazing picnic/walk yesterday.  We went right round Thirlestane Castle.  Had a pit-stop there for water and ham.  I feel really at home there.

Mirren prefers Abbotsford but then she would wouldn't she? Then we went up to the pond and I paddled and played in the river and we had a pit-stop.  We went to the park and had another pit-stop.  We played with our toys too.  It was FANTASTIC.  A tad tired now though.

Mirren Sunday 18th September

Yes, we have been away a while.  Pam retired but she's been back at work full time.  She's going to take Thursdays off to be with us.  Yesterday's walk was really wonderful.

All four of us trotting along.  Well we all trot, Magnus sort of ambles sniffing everything.  I can do without the paddling bit.  I don't like getting my paws wet.  I didn't drink out of the river either.  I prefer to drink out of my portable dish.  One never knows what's gone into, or gone on in, the water of a river.  I prefer my tap stuff.  Pam and I just sat on the bank and watched the boys frolic.  Great time.  Pam sneaked me some steak later.  Big Boy can't have any.  It makes his tummy go funny and he farts a lot.
In fact Big Boy has had a tough week.  Pam found a tick on him.  We don't usually get them round here.  He must have stuck his nose somewhere he shouldn't.  As a result we've been given tick stuff on our coats.  We've been ticked off!!!

Monday 29 August 2016

Magnus 29th August

Having the mobile kennel back is great.  We've been back to the woods.  I like running in the woods.  I do think this is my natural territory.  Sniffing for wolves, checking under tree trunks, searching the undergrowth.  Great stuff.  Really feel at home in there.  Sometimes even break into a trot.  Met some big pals.  Tried to get them to play.  In the end had to settle for a team shot!

My breed even got TV  time the other night.  fame.  A Wolfhound was on Supervet/Bioic vet.  That man is incredible.  Ard-Ri was a good looking chap but I think I 'm more camera friendly.  Any way, off to the couch.  I feel a snooze coming on.  It's all that wood running.

Mirren 29th August

He's such a name dropper!! Humph.  Do agree though, getting back in the mobile kennel is great.  However, I do  have a complaint.  Magnus gets helped into the back of the car because it's a bit high.  I, of course, just elegantly jump in.  On Friday I thought I'd ask for help.  Pam tried to lift me in.  Ewen was too busy!!!!!  She dropped me. It was awful.  Fortunately no one saw me fall.  It was sooo embarrassing.  She was very upset.  She mentioned something about me being heavier than she thought.  Think I'll ignore that.

Thursday 18 August 2016

Magnus Friday August 19th

Well so much so for retirement.  Pam's back at work today.  But Ewen's got the mobile kennel back.  Fantastic.  Walks in different places again.  Not that I haven't enjoyed my walks around Lauder.  They are pretty spectacular.  And I met Ben again.  My puppyhood pal.  Isn't it funny how it doesn't matter how long it's been, with good friends it's like yesterday.  Ben and I had a great time.  It was sooooo good to see him.  He's a black lab.  Lots of fun.  Mirren's nose was totally out of joint.  It's a whole different story if it's her and Harry or her and Murdo.

Mirren Friday August 19th

Murdo is just a sweet young thing. Far too young for me.  He is only one and far too bouncy.  I had to put him in his place a few times. He's as good looking as Harry but blond where Harry is a red head.  Good company though and it's nice I can still get the attention of the younger fellows.  I mean, a girl needs to feel wanted, after all.  Magnus can play all he wants with Ben.  What is all this rough stuff when guys get together?  Why can't they just wag tails and be nice?

Monday 8 August 2016

Magnus Monday 8th August

It's really cold and windy now. Soon be Christmas I think.  Turkey and presents.  I'll need to start saving my paw money.  It's been Common Riding here.  Lots of horses around and young men in funny hats.  I get a lot of "Can you put a saddle on that?"  Personally I think it's all a bit offensive.  I mean, what would happen if I passed a comment on a human's size?  Or if I peed on someone because their legs looked like a tree trunk, or a pole or something.  I feel very sensitive about it.
Ayway, went for a quick trot and gallop round the hills this morning. Great, and not a horse in sight.

Mirren Monday 8th August

It's barely August and he's thinking about Christmas.  Common Riding is over.  It's a big festival in the Scottish Borders.  Magnus usually reminds me he took first in fancy dress one year.  It seems to have slipped his mind this year.  I think I might enter next year.  I am so utterly gorgeous and lovely I'd have to get a first too.  Pam says she might take me in.
He is correct in saying it's very cold, windy and dark today.  Much as I like the sun it's a lot easier when you don't have to pant so much.  Magnus is much more comfortable now.  The poor Big Guy spent some very warm night, not sleeping, just panting.  Is that sympathy you ask?! He is my pal as well as the bane of my life.

PS magnus.
Bone? who mentioned bone? Is she comparing me to a bone?

Friday 29 July 2016

Magnus Friday 29th July

I've got a call sign.  It's "Hamster".  This is because I've got chubby cheeks and like ham????? Not sure about this at all.  Ewen's "Flash" 'cause he's a photographer and Pam is "TeeKay" 'cause that's her favourite shop.  Mirren is "Ghost".  Anyway, the walks have been great this week.  2 hours of bliss.  Hurt my paw though.  I was playing football with Flash.  Must have staved it.  But, as I always say, every cloud......got medicinal chicken to help with pain.  I was a very brave puppy.

Mirren Friday 29th July

Yes, I am "Ghost" because I run so fast and I can just disappear.  I like my call sign.  Pam and Ewen have been watching "Top Gun".  They seem to know all the words!!  Very odd.  Walks have been brilliant.  I also like the pit-stops.  Water and nibbles.  It really is like having lots of little picnics.  I really like it, especially when Ewen takes us to the golf course club house  Very princess-y.  Very me.  Love Magnus's call sign.  That boy would do anything for ham.  And he does have these cute, hairy cheeks so.......

Sunday 24 July 2016

Magnus Sunday 24th July

Mum's birthday yesterday.  We gave her a lovely charm present.  She was very pleased.  Ewen said he used our biscuit money.  I deeply hope not.  I know I shouldn't be tight pawed but I do love my biscuits.  I shouldn't worry anyway.  She always makes sure we are well provided for.  Like on walks.  She's started taking a bag on her back with bottles of water, a fold up dish and treats in it.  Mirren says it's because Pam is a responsible dog owner.  I just think it's cause she loves us.

Mirren Sunday 24th July

It has been really warm and muggy here, even early in the morning.  When we go for walks we get very thirsty quickly.  Pam is just making sure we don't dehydrate.  When you're running about for 2hours it takes it out of you.  I enjoy a nice bottle of cold water as much as the next dog. Ewen's put fans on in the house too.  Big Boy gets so hot, especially at night.  He pants all the time.  He is very hairy, of course.  I just have cool thoughts and they keep me cool.  I think I'm walking in the snow, feeling the snow in my paws.  Very cooling.
I never grudge either of the Two-Legs their presents.  They look after us, so it' s nice to look after them too.  And, as Magnus says, we will still get our treats.

PS Magnus has stopped farting as much since Pam stopped Ewen giving us rice in our food.  The air is so much sweeter!
PPS Ewen needs to start posting pics again!!!!!

Thursday 14 July 2016

Magnus Thursday 14th July

Mirren is becoming a bit of a diva.  Pam just caters for her every whim.  I don't want to eat there, I want to eat here.  I want to eat lying down.  I want you to feed me.  Nyah nyah nyah!  Honest to goodness she needs to get a wake up call.  I'm not like that.  I'll munch away anywhere.  I like my food......and hers.  That's the problem.  If she's lying down, having her food, with Pam,  I don't get to hover around and eat up the left overs.
Once again, every cloud,,,,,,,,Mirren couldn't eat her tea last night because she was scared of a big, bluebottle.  Kept running away.  Don't understand.  Now if it was a wasp I could.  That's a WHOLE different story.  Been stung by one once.  I hope it doesn't happen again.  I was not a happy puppy.  Kept the Two-legs up all night i was so scared.  Don't remind The Duchess please.  But then a blue bottle doesn't sting.  Wasps are a much more serious matter.

Mirren Thursday 14th July

Bonjour mes amis.  Heureux le jour de la bastille. Meilleurs voeux à tous nos amis français. J'aime votre style et votre sens de l'élégance. Je sens que je pourrais avoir des ancêtres français, ainsi que des Écossais.
I have no idea what he's on about.  If Pam wishes to make sure I eat, that's fine.  She worries that I might have a wee problem with trying to keep thin, svelte and beautiful.  She thinks I should run about more rather than not eat.
I am embarrassed about the blue bottle.  I admit it.  But then I catch and kill wasps.  Blue bottles are just so buzzy and big.  And blue and shiny.

Monday 4 July 2016

Magnus Monday 4th July

Pam's home.  Off the bed.  But then she gave me some of her gluten free, cheese toast this morning.  Always look on the bright side.

Mirren Monday 4th July

Happy Independence Day !!
Yes.  Pam is home.  I am not allowed on the good couches anymore.  But then Big Boy is not on the bed!  Have had big, girlie cuddles so I really don't mind.  Good to have a 2:2 balance in the house again.

Friday 24 June 2016

Magnus Friday 24th June
Pam's going on holiday tomorrow.  I'll miss her.  I get the bed.  I get to sleep on the bed with Ewen.  I get to stretch out.  I bags her side of the bed.  Mine.  Labelled.  I'm Ewen's wingman.  I get the bed.  Yes!! Sorted.

Mirren Friday 24th June
Typical.  Me me me.  Pam retired yesterday.  It was a very sad and emotional day for her and all he can think about is getting her side of the bed.  I really shall miss her when she's away.  She gives me proper girlie cuddles and looks after my beautifulness.
And if he thinks he's getting her side of the bed he's mistaken.  I'm faster and lighter and I'll get there first.  Plus I don't fart like he does.  I'm keeping her side warm for her.

Tuesday 21 June 2016

Magnus Tuesday 21st June

Back to early morning walks again. Weather is rubbish which suits me well.  Been attacked by the dreaded brush.  Off to my couch.

Mirren Tuesday 21st June
What a moan.  Still waiting for Ewen to put up more gorgeous pictures of me.  He always seems so busy these days.  Pam stops work on Thursday which means I will get LOTS more cuddles and beautifying.  I can't wait.
Think I stood in something smelly this morning.  Left a nasty deposit on the carpet!

Magnus Tuesday 21st June

Nice that it was little miss dainty paws that put her paw in it this morning.  It was not me........for a wee change.

Magnus Wednesday15th June

It's all been a bit busy round here.  Ewen has been away in Ireland.  But he's back now.  When he's at work I basically just lie around in a fit of abandonment and wait for him.

Pam says she doesn't know what she'd do without couches.  I don't know what I'd do either !!!!!

Mirren Wednesday15th June

I am SOOOO off my food.  Unless it's a really tasty morsel, like steak.  I can't be bothered.  I really have to get this sylph like body back into shape.  I do eat rather a lot when I'm in season.  It's a wonder Harry even gave me a second look.  I agree with Magnus (something we do agree on at last - hooray) a hound needs a good, comfy couch and parents who allow us to use them.  Can you just imagine if Pam and Ewen didn't  let us use the couches.  We would have to sleep on the floor for goodness sake.  I could maybe wangle the bed every now and again but the floor?????  I don't think so.

Magnus Wednesday 1st June

Great weather these days.  Ewen takes us for a two hour hike at 5am.  I'm not fond of too much heat.  makes me very warm and hot.  Have to pant a lot.  But,,,,,,,,,, when Harry was sniffing at Bitch Pants the other week Ewen must have lost our brush so, great news, haven't been attacked by the brush in three weeks.  Very happy boy,  hate that thing.  Bit wary of this rubbery mitt thing that's come in.  Apparently it's not a toy.

Mirren Wednesday 1st June

He really is an idiot.  He lies outside when it's sunny and wonders why he's getting too hot.  Personally, I keep out of the sun, where possible, unless wearing sunglasses and preferably with an umbrella.  Ewen put an umbrella up for him the other day and he ran away!!  What more can I say?
As to the brush and dear Harry.  Humph!!? Anyway new brush and a MITT have been acquired?  Fantastic mitt.  Love it. What joy! Being stroked and de-haired at the same time.  Bliss.
Have met Harry in the woods since our meeting up the hill.  He still things I'm sexy.  Fantastic. What a charmer.

Magnus ( wee response)
I am not an idiot.  Sometimes I pretend I am Lawrence of Arabia and cover my head with something to protect me from the sun!  And she is such a silly girl when Harry appears.  Infantile!

We both have to apologize for not writing sooner but Pam says the weather has been too good to be inside.  She says they need to spend time in the garden, gardening!?  I don't think lying on those long, bed things get much gardening done.

Magnus Tuesday 17th May

Ho hum, sorry folks.  It's just been very nice weather and we've been walking MILES.  Ewen takes us out, every morning at 5.00am for 2hours.  It's great fun.  It's a great time time to be out.  No-one else.  Well apart from last week.  Now there's a story.  Bitchy face still has her pants on.   Well not when we are out walking because that would make life difficult if you know what I mean.  Anyway, out of no-where comes this red haired chap, a Lab I think.  His name is Harry.  Seen him about town.  Thinks he's royalty or something.  Getting back to the story...he's all over my wee, bitchy chum.  I was NOT having any of that and decided to see him off.  I was very aggressive.  Poor Ewen had to put me on the lead.  He didn't want any damages.  Then he tried to get Mirren on the lead.  I swear she was twerking Harry. "Look at me! Look at me!" sort of thing.  Waving her bottom at him.  Disgusting.  In the end I gave her a row too.  It wasn't all Harry's fault, after all.  Think the pants will be off soon.  Met Harry again last night.  I apologised.  He was still sniffing Mir but accepted the apology.  He told me he'd been for an injection.  My goodness that was magnanimous of him.

Mirren Tuesday 17th May

I cannot tell a lie.  I do rather like Harry.  He's just so dashing.  And his hair............... Oh well.  As a pedigree I can't go slumming it with another breed but red haired Lurcher puppies would be very lovely.  They'd look like me but have Harry's colouring.  Utterly gorgeous.  I'm sort of out of the mood now though.
We were watching a programme on TV, last night, about picking the right puppy for you.  Pam and Ewen should have watched it before they got us.  Insurance and food.  Wow! Who knew!
Big Boy has a bad nose.  The vet said, (It was Colin by the way.  Swoon, swoon.  Forget about Harry) that with a nose that size it was amazing he'd not had problems before.  Pam calls him Big Sniff (Magnus not Colin).
Apologies from me too about not writing, but all this walking and good weather and dreaming about Harry.........................................

Tuesday 26 April 2016

Magnus 26th April

It's been a really hard week.  Ewen got taken into hospital on Wednesday morning.  I was devastated.  I knew when Pam came home on her own that something was up.  I lay by the window and watched for him but he didn't come for AGES.  Pam took us walks just like Ewen does but I missed him.  I just wandered off on my own a few times.  Lost in thought.  It was great to get him home on Saturday.  I couldn't stop shaking and hugging him.  He's home now.  That's all that matters.

Mirren 26th April

Poor Ewen was really poorly for a while there.  I felt so sorry for Pam she had so much running about to do as well as looking after Big Boy and me.  Magnus was particularly difficult.  After two days Pam started calling him "Kevin" because he was behaving like a teenager.  He didn't help things.  One day he just went off on his own.  Pam was annoyed at him for being such an idiot.  I gave him a proper telling off.  I bit his ear and his muzzle and gave him a good barking.  I doubt it made much difference.
Other than that we have had sunshine and then snow: sunshine and then hail:17C then 3C. I just don't know what it's going to be like next.
Got pants on again.  It's that time of the year! Big Boy had better behave.  I am in no mood for aggravation.

Tuesday 19 April 2016

Magnus 19th April

Just been out for a play walk, with our toys, with Pam and Ewen and it was great fun and I had a toy-wrestling-match with Ewen.  Great fun.  We've been along the Leader walks too.  I sunbathed today with Ewen.  He needs those sun's rays to keep him happy.
Pam goes back to work tomorrow.  Suppose we'll get less treats.

Mirren 19th April

How can he be so flippant ?! Pam does go back to work tomorrow and I shall miss her dreadfully.  It's not all about the treats it's about her cuddling me and long lie ins, the brushing, the neck scratches...............................and, oh well, the treats.  Walks have been good too.  Big Boy doesn't mention that when we went from Leaderfoot to Earlston we met up with ....a Labradoodle, a Spaniel and 4 Westies.  Magnus was terrified.  I had to stand in front of him to protect him.  His legs were shaking.

Friday 15 April 2016

Magnus 15th April

I really can't wait for Pam to go back to work!! I know it's great having her on walks and the treats thing but she turns into a night owl when she's on holiday and I need my sleep!  I am a growing boy and need my rest.  As guard dog of the house I cannot rest easy until everyone is settled for the night.  She sits and watches late night TV and reads.  She sews and paints.  Why can't she just go to bed?  I've gone through and tried to round her up and point her in the direction of the bedroom but she just resists.
Going for a mid afternoon nap while I can.  Need to catch up.

Mirren 15th April

Guard dog?  I think not.  A herd of rabbits could come in and he'd let them!!  I am the guard dog.  I know when to bark and when to stay still.  There is no point in growling at cats through the window.  They know they are safe.  I just stare them out.  As to my lovely mistress's late nights, I just put my paws round my ears and sleep on.  He does get his paws in a twist. Magnus and Ewen are such early birds.  I think I'm more like Pam.  I like watching things go by in the wee hours.  Things smell different too.   A late night foray into the back garden is absolutely a nasal delight.  Magnus would be too scared.
However, I agree with the mid afternoon nap.  Great idea.

Friday 8 April 2016

Magnus 8th April

Really sorry folks.  Been very busy.  Pam had her sister and brother-in-law to stay.  We all lay about eating a lot.  Suited me actually.  Lying about waiting for food to drop is always a pleasure, but not always forthcoming.  I know we are not allowed at the table when the two-legs are eating.  I have discovered that, in fact, while they are eating, a foraging expedition is more successful.  Take, for example, Monday lunch time.  They were lunching.  I checked out the kitchen and liberated a gluten free carrot cake.  The icing is brilliant.

Mirren 8th April

Once again, Sir Galahad offered me none of the cake.  Big Boy is not a sharer.  Pam and Ewen were not impressed with him.  Pam gave me some of the salvaged cake, so that did make up for him not sharing_______but just a little bit.  When I think of all the times I let him have my food once I'm full.  He stands behind me drooling, I genteelly finish what I need ( a girl looks after her figure) and walk away letting him guzzle away.  Well NO MORE! If he won't share neither will I.  I have asked Ewen and Pam to remove my dish when I am finished.  Big Boy can go suck a claw!

Wednesday 30 March 2016

Magnus Wednesday 30th March

Happy Easter all.  Been chasing my football around rather than an egg. Skinned my paw a bit but a guy just plays on.  Of course I left a blood trail in the house.  Pam wasn't very happy.
Been back at the vet but, Yippee, I didn't need to go.  In fact I just stayed in the car.  It was Bitch Face who went in.  She gets excited about going in cause she gets to see Colin.  I don't think I'll ever get excited about the vet.  There was one dog there last time who kept begging his owner not to take him in.  Poor dog had his paws round his owner's waist and was looking up at her whining.  Made me feel a lot better.  Apparently, the Princess made a lot of noise in the vet's.  Whine, whine, moan, moan.  We can just hear her.

Mirren Wednesday 30th March

I must agree, Happy Easter all.  Still have a red bandage on my tail but Colin says I've healed up really well.  I'm just so healthy.  Didn't get to see him last time, just the nurse.  I made a lot of noise to let him know I was there.   He must have been very busy not to have come and seen me.  I mean I'm one of his star patients!  Anyway, not licking or chewing my tail.  I want it to heal with just a little scar.  Us girls like our scars to be invisible.  Don't want our good looks messed with.
Big Boy is complaining about a skint paw.  Huh! He has no idea!

Tuesday 22 March 2016

Magnus Wednesday 23rd March

I've had a great time with Ewen.  We found a football and we've been playing with it.  I'm really good at football.  I can close down a ball no problem.  Tackling Ewen, brilliant.  Side stepping.  I am very good at this. I could go pro.  Mirren doesn't join in.  Too rough.  Means I get to play with Ewen and the ball without a girlie joining in.  Excellent.

Other than that..don't know what the fuss is about.  Mirren has a bandage on her tail?!  So what?  Happens to me all the time.

Mirren Wednesday 23rd March

I've been mutilated!.  Pam was giving me a brushing on Sunday.  She felt, rightly I have to say,  that my hair was getting a bit clumpy.  She was busy on my tail when she found a lump.  It was most embarrassing.  It was underneath, up near my bottom.  Well, panic!  I had to go and see Colin on Monday.  I was glad Pam had brushed me because I do like to look good when I go to see Colin.  He said I had to have an operation right away.  He checked Big Boy's tail too but his attention was just for me.  Tuesday I had to go in first thing.  Fortunately, it was just a cyst.  I know have a big, blue bandage on my tail.  They might have given me pink.  Nice nurse.
Anyway, let Pam and Ewen know I was upset they left me, even if it was with Colin.  Howled ALL the way home and ignored them for a while.  Felt better after lots of cuddles and biscuits.  I mean I had nothing to eat for ages.  Slept a bit too.

St Patricks Day ..........

Magnus  Thursday 17th March

Happy St Patricks day to you all.........

Tuesday 15 March 2016

Magnus Tuesday 15th March

Good times.  Weather's good.  Great walks, toys, water dishes and food.  What more does a guy need.  Now Pam's on our walks, we have all of these.  I play with Ewen and Pam plays with Bossy Boots.  Bossy Boots wants ALL the toys, especially the one I'm playing with.  Ewen plays tug of war with me and then we run away from her.  Bossy Boots is Mirren by the way, NOT Pam.  I'm having fun.  Then when I'm thirsty Pam now has portable water and dish.  She's so organised.

Mirren Tuesday 15th March

I am just so much faster than him.  I am also incredibly good at running pick ups.  Pam says so.  She says I can pick an object up of the ground while going flat out.  She says Monty used to do this too.  Must be the breeding.  Big Boy has actually been cantering.  He gets dragged along by Ewen.  It's really funny.  He bears a remarkable resemblance to Scooby Do.
Pam is very organised.  The new drinking dish is fabulous.  Personally I think it's a dish to me but more like a nose bag to Big Nose.  As to the Bossy Boots comments!  Wait till I get him trying to sneak food out of my dish.  That's the end of my generosity.

Tuesday 8 March 2016

Magnus Tuesday 8th March

Whoo hoo!!   I can limbo.  So proud.  Flattened myself and crawled under a fence.  Pam and Ewen were so proud of me.  We were out for one of our long, riverside walks.  I like going on them.  Bit muddy because it had snowed again  and melted.

I hope it makes up for the fact they weren't quite so proud of me yesterday, when I ate a pound of extra strong, vintage cheddar.  Have had cheesy farts all night.
It was their fault though.  They shouldn't leave anything on a work top.  With my height and my nose. ..........nothing gets away.

Mirren Tuesday 8th March

Can I make it quite clear that the limbo thing was NOT that spectacular.  He climbed up a hill to avoid the steps.  He couldn't get back on the path.  Ewen tried to send him back down the slope but he decided to flatten himself and crawl under a fence.  Scared of the steps.  Personally, I'd just have jumped over it.
Liked the fact that Pam brought my new, portable, blue water dish with her on the walk.  She remembered I don't drink out of rivers or puddles.  She's a good girl!
I was particularly fed up yesterday when he stole the cheese.  He never offered me any.

Tuesday 1 March 2016

Magnus March 1st

Mirren is getting increasingly grumpy.  She was really bitchy the other day.  I try and keep out of her way but in she comes, barking away.  Nag, nag, nag.  The rest of the time all she wants to do is eat and sleep.  Been for some good walks again.  The weather is getting better and Ewen says we don't need our coats anymore.  Really pleased about that.  I like to run with the wind in my hair.

Mirren 1st march

Humph! Which girl wouldn't get grumpy.  I am very hungry and yes, I have heard the "putting on weight" words again.  I think it's coming out of the winter that does it.  My coat is just not as silky as it should be.  I think I am going to have a word with Pam about some girlie time.
As to Magnus running with the wind in his hair??? That'll be right! He doesn't run fast enough.  He trots.

Tuesday 23 February 2016

Magnus Tuesday 23rd February

Ewen has discovered a new walk.  It's fabulous.  Through trees, beside a river, with sand flats in the river bend.  I am such a happy puppy.  I like woodland.  I can imagine my ancestors chasing wolves through the trees. The sand and water helps too.  Ewen and I played "skimming stones". Well Ewen skimmed stones and I chased them, up to my tummy in water.  Mirren doesn't play.  She's scared to get her paws wet.  We're going back again today.  I am soooo excited.
Went a different walk.  It was brilliant.  Made better by Pam bringing ham.  Ham on a walk.  Happy puppy. Mmmmmmmmmmmmm
(PS the deer didn't even break a sweat!!)

Mirren Tuesday 23rd February

I am not scared to get my paws wet.  I CHOOSE not to.  Anyway, I was keeping Pam company while Ewen and Magnus were messing about in the water.  Big Boy is quite childish.  He likes splashing about in water.  He likes squidging about in mud too.  I would never do that.  I like to keep my claws clean. Ewen has to get him to walk through water to clean his paws before we get back in the car.
I like the walk too but I think my ancestors would have been racing over a heathered hill chasing the deer.  We still do!!!
Liked this walk.  Had a really good run chasing three deer. Gave them a good chasing.  Perfect.  Then Pam gave me water out of a wee bag she's brought.  I couldn't get a drink out of the river without falling in, so she filled the bag for me.  She's so good to me.  Big Boy could hardly get his big nose in the bag!!!
